Tour Description

Parque Eduardo VII - Located at the top of Marquês de Pombal Square, it is the largest park in Lisbon. He was renamed the King of England when he came to Lisbon to reaffirm the alliance between the two countries. Beautiful way to start the tour, enjoying a magnificent view of Lisbon.

S. Roque Church - We are in one of the beautiful churches of Lisbon. It was dedicated to Saint Roque and was built in the 16th century. It belonged to the Society of Jesus, having been the first in Portugal, belonging to this Company, and one of the first Jesuit churches in the World. Of the various chapels in its interior, there is the chapel of St. John the Baptist, of the eighteenth century, in baroque style and commissioned by D. João V.

Lisbon Cathedral - The Lisbon Cathedral, or Santa Maria Maior Church, is the oldest and most important church in the city. It was built in the 12th century by D.Afonso Henriques, after the reconquest of Lisbon from the Moors, and the predominant style is Romanesque, although there are other styles. Here were kept the relics of St. Vincent and one can observe the tombs of D. Afonso IV and D. Beatriz, one of our Kings of Portugal.

S. Jorge Castle - the scene of great battles and events that are important to the city's history, is situated on one of the seven hills of Lisbon. Be sure to enjoy the beautiful landscape of the city.

Alfama - considered to be the birthplace of fado, this narrow-street neighborhood was once inhabited by aristocrats and later by many fishermen.
This neighborhood is known not only for the popular Santos celebrations, but also for the Fado houses and restaurants.
Walking these streets is simply a unique experience. Watching the old houses and imagining the centuries of history that this place has, is just one of the rewarding moments along this tour.

Commerce Square (or Terreiro do Paço) - was for two centuries the place where the Palace of Kings of Portugal was. The Ribeira Palace and its library, with about 70,000 volumes, were destroyed by the 1755 earthquake.
Next to the river is the Cais das Colunas, with the marble steps, being considered the entrance of Lisbon.

Jeronimos Monastery - built by D. Manuel I in the 16th century, is one of the most remarkable and representative of Manueline architecture. It is currently the National Pantheon and to emphasize the beauty of the front, the church-hall and the cloisters.
It has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

Belem Tower - one of the symbols of the city, was built in the 16th century and all its Manueline architecture dates back to the Age of Discovery. It served at the time of its construction as a defensive bulwark of the river.

Monument to the Discoveries - the project was conceived in 1940, during the Portuguese World Exhibition, but its construction began only in 1960, at the time of the commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the death of Infante D. Henrique.

Belém Pastéis - the recipe comes from the monks of the Jeronimos Monastery who gave it up at the time of the Liberal Revolution to the Sugar Refinery, now Belém's Pastéis Factory. A sweet way to end the tour of Lisbon.
